On The Cover: Ana Sideco—The Big Believer

February 1st, in Features by Apryl Galang

“Dream big it would really get you far!”

How’s that for a one-liner big shout out from our February Cover Girl, model Ana Sideco.  No doubt, her modeling career is reaching new heights now.  She’s relocating to New York USA next month to model full time under the prestigious international modeling agency, Major Model Management.

FYI, Major Model Management’s client list includes commercial clients like Dior, Estée Lauder, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and editorial clients like Harper’s Bazaar, Visionaire, Citizen K and Numero, American Vogue and Vogue Italia. It has offices in New York, Milan, Munich and Paris.

Ana’s ecstatic about the whole relocating thing and even looks forward to more exciting things to happen career wise, “I will be modeling there full-time so I hope to see myself doing the usual stuff I do here in Manila, from runway to TV to print.  I’m very excited to work in New York again.  When I was there for a few months, I already got a taste of modeling there.  It’s very different from here.  Even the castings there are more organized.”

Still, this lady can’t just credit her luck for getting this opportunity of a lifetime.  She also gives kudos to the guts and the passion she has acquired to her craft over the years.  As they say, strike while the iron is hot.  Ana’s doing it and she’s aiming for more!

She’s eager to excel in this field and puts her ‘more than hundred percent’ focus on becoming the best, “Be passionate.  Modeling is really about passion.  You really have to love what you do because modeling is 90% rejection.  You won’t get 9 out of 10 castings.  If I have to give any advice to any aspiring model, you should be professional, ambitious and passionate.  I was just a very ambitious lady.  That’s why I had the guts to go to New York agencies and present myself.  And it scored me a contract and a sponsorship.”

Undoubtedly, the Metal Tiger year is her time.  We took the liberty to search online for her horoscope (she’s born under the Scorpio sign). And here’s what we stumbled upon from www.foreverhoroscope.com.

Scorpio: “You are likely to experience a lot of changes in your life. You have a lot of energy and should try to be more constructively engaged; else you may squander it unproductively. You will have strong powers of self-expression. You are very independent and normally you are very confident. You have a strong urge to rule, but you must learn to use power wisely. You will have good health and you are likely to be courageous and honorable.”

Throughout our short chitchat, she suddenly becomes nostalgic on her beginnings. Our conversation went to how she wore baggy pants, loose shirt and sneakers before, how she was always thin even if she has huge appetite and how she kept a small mirror in her skirt pocket in her high school days. Funny because who would ever think that Ana Banana (how her friend fondly calls her) will eventually walk down fashion ramp and strut her fiercest pose on glossies.

Indeed, there are still some exciting things for Ana to discover and yet to unfold. But knowing her ‘go-getter’ personality, she’ll put out all her guts to make it happen.

I’ve never know Ate Ana before until we met her at Taipei’s Airport waiting for her flight to New York. I didn’t knew she is that popular in Modeling Industry (obviously- coz i never knew), we chat about her life and how she became a model. How she will be in NY and what will her itinerary there. She showed us some of her modeling picture, it was great. She’s really a down-to-earth type of girl. Its my pleasure to meet her.
