Hip and Happening
Metro’s nightlife scene is alive and kicking at the start of the year. And it becomes even more exciting with the latest addition of new hip places that will not only electrify the vibe but also a sight to behold. Let’s do a quick rundown, shall we?
Opus Restaurant and Lounge
2nd Floor Resorts World
Named after a classic Roman masterpiece, Opus will surely enthrall diners and nightlife denizens with its 2-in-1 concept with restaurant and lounge combined. Club owner extraordinaire Erik Cua made sure that Opus is the largest and most polished bar to date on this side of the metro. With that, he drew significant inspirations from Paris, the Louvre, and Zaha Hadid’s works. The place boasts of having the most refined and mature space. Everything in Opus is a work of art from the interiors, food offerings, and the drinks. Plus they also provide the finest in quality service. Catch a glimpse of the lounge with a cavernous ceiling and a mercury bar as its centerpiece. Likewise, expect the entrees to be exceptional as prepared by Chef Carlo Miguel while the molecular cocktails are divine.
Salon De Ning
The Peninsula Manila
When you say elegance, there’s only one place that can perfectly fit in. Step into the decadent luxury that is Salon de Ning, The Peninsula’s extravagantly unique combination of clubby lounge venue reflects the glamorous lifestyle of celebrated Shanghai socialite and world traveler, Madame Ning. Starting with the main lounge, the place highlights her intriguing collection of objets and items. There are four more rooms depicting her varied interests and pursuits namely the Zeppelin Room (inspired by her long friendship with the German Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin who pioneered the design of the first rigid airships the world had ever seen); the Boxing Room (a shrine to 1937 World Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis who was rumored to have been madly in love with her and gifted her with his boxing robe displayed in a corner and Filipino pugilist from the same era, Ceferino Garcia); the Shoe Room (her homage to shoemakers who transform ordinary footwear into works of wearable art); and lastly the Shanghai Room (a recreation of her 1930s mansion along the Bund – enticing dark wood interiors, oriental rugs with Art Deco touches and sepia photographs lining the walls).
You’ll surely be delighted with their bon vivant offerings; a few notable choices are caviar and French oysters, delicious morsels of foie gras terrine with port wine on brioche, mille-feuille of blue cheese in walnut bread, quick-seared tuna with watermelon, Peking duck tartlets with plum sauce and panko-crumbled pork adobo. Finally, taste their delicious signature “Ning Sling” cocktail and feel extra special.
