Graphic designer Tatum Ancheta’s first dip in the art scene is through her solo exhibit aptly entitled “Momentary Affliction.” The exhibit will feature an array of the states of solitude – the entanglements of intimacy and the unrest of being unattached. The impact of Tatum’s recent works lies in her scrutiny for texture and details—chartreuse, olive green, dreamy shades of blue, a splash of magenta and warm hues –- the color palette is vivid, yet there is a trait of surreal tragic beauty that takes places when she mixes texture into her pieces.
From daydreaming to sleeping in fantasies, another key dimension to appreciating Ancheta’s work is texture. One must be very near; ideally an inch from the paintings to inspect the exquisite surface area of delicate hardened paint with their distinctive marks, splotches and crevices in between.
