The Sweetest Thing

I love you. Three simple words, when said from child to mother, brings joy to moms all over. And while it isn’t hard to say, or may not be said often, Toblerone asks everyone: when was the last time you said, “I love you mom?”

It’s a striking question people don’t really think about. For some, saying “I love you mom” comes as naturally as saying it on the phone before hanging up or through a text message.

“My mom lives in a different city, so when I miss her I send her a text saying ‘I love you,” said Anika, who is a stylist.

There are even some like Miel Abong, a fresh gradudate, who says it so often that sometimes she’s not aware that she just said it. “It’s like you take it for granted,” she said. Females, however, are typically perceived to show affection more easily than males. Several male young adults have said that they don’t say it because they don’t feel comfortable. “It’s cheesy,” they say.

Not all male young adults, however, are like that. In spite of being in their mid-twenties and working the corporate daily grind, there are working account executives that take the time to say “I love you, mom” before heading to bed.

“I’m very close to my mom,” said one advertising account executive. “Saying ‘I love you’ before going to sleep is something that I have done since I was younger, and continues to be something I do today.”

The affection shown from child to mother stems from their relationship growing up. Of course it does not signify that if one does not say “I love you” to their mothers that they don’t. People express love in different ways.

Say it sweeter with Toblerone
Over the years, whether it is for a birthday, for Valentine’s, a simple Thank You, or graduation, gestures of expressions have truly been said sweeter with Toblerone.

When balikbayans return to their mother nation, Toblerone is what they give their friends and family. Last Valentine’s day, Toblerone had an online promo and activations were put up where several people gifted their love ones with Toblerone.

Rallying all young adults to give their moms the perfect gift, Toblerone invited notable young professionals to a discussion with Pia Acevedo of the Love Institute on why or why not young adults express affection to their mothers.

Acevedo, a certified life coach with expertise in family relationships and personal life transitions and author of the upcoming book Born to be a Hero, Raising Heroes, shared her insights in a cozy, sit-down discussion with hosts RJ Ledesma and Tessa Prieto-Valdes, along with invited young adults, RJ Jacinto, Jessica Tan Gan, and Georgia Schulze-Del Rosario.

The discussion was timely, and built on Toblerone’s “Say it Sweeter with Toblerone” campaign. Now, with Mother’s Day just around the corner, Toblerone encourages everyone to give their moms the perfect gift, not a bar of chocolate, but an “I love you” said sweeter with Toblerone.

Say “I love you Mom” Online

Toblerone is a brand that grew up with generations of chocolate-lovers who use the famous three-sided bar to bridge the gap and create long-lasting relationships.

This year, Toblerone shifts its gears and focuses on the longest relationship we’ve all had: the mother-child relationship. Toblerone is giving its loyal friends and family the opportunity to tell the world how much they love their moms through an online photo contest that began on April 20 and will end by the 18th of May.

Toblerone is offering 50 weekly winners a 100g Toblerone bar each, an overnight stay for two (2) at the Shangri-La Edsa for major weekly winners, and an overnight stay for four (4) in the Hotel H20 Aquarium Room with Spa, Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner for the sweetest photo with mom. Simply “like” the Facebook Page named “TobleronePilipinas” and upload the sweetest photo of you and your mom together. You can submit a recent one or a photo from way back when.
