Live, Laugh and Sing with Jim Paredes
Staging a comeback to the enetertainment scene, veteran singer and composer Jim Paredes will be holding his first solo concert, “Live, Laugh and Sing” on October 11, 8 PM at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
One-thirds of the OPM triumvirate APO Hiking Society, Jim will be performing a mix of their well-loved hits, new compositions and pop tunes in his signature style. Joining Jim are Yeng Constantino, Noel Cabangon, Jett pangan and Ebe Dancel.

Francisfest with David Benoit
Santuario de San Antonio Parish (SSAP) presents FRANCISFEST with David Benoit, happening on October 3, 2012, 8PM at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. An annual fundraising event, FRANCISFEST helps support the SSAP Foundation’s educational, medical and prison ministries, as well as its various outreach projects.
This year, contemporary jazz pianist, conductor, composer and five-time Grammy nominee David Benoit shares his talent to this worthy cause. Since launching his recording career in 1977, David Benoit’s expansive career as a contemporary jazz pianist and composer has included over 25 solo recordings.
David has also worked on prominent Charlie Brown related projects (Here’s to You, Charlie Brown: 50 Great Years; The Star-Studded 40 Years: A Charlie Brown Christmas) and has several orchestral music endeavors under his name. These include his ongoing role as conductor of the Asia America Symphony Orchestra and leading such eminent orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the symphonies of London, Nuremberg, San Francisco, Atlanta, San Antonio and San Jose.
Joining David is retro and soul band Mulatto.

The UP Economics Society, Boysen:Pacific Paint, Information Society and Wacoal, in cooperation with John Robert Powers, Ever Bilena, Hyco, Hannah Hotel and Profriends, bring you the most awaited high school chorale competition of the year, MUSIKAPELLA 2012: Isang Himig, Isang Pilipinas. Sway to the chorale renditions of Original Pinoy Music, and support your school as they battle it out on Sunday, September 30, 5:00PM, at the Aliw Theater.
With the contest pieces “Tara Na, Byahe Tayo!” by the Department of Toursim (DoT), “Piliin ang Pilipinas” by Allan Dunnug, and “Lakbayin ang Pilipinas” by the Bayang Barrios and Noel Cabangon, Musikapella 2012 aims to promote the Philippines’ beautiful and distinctive culture through a collective serenade by talented high school chorale groups.

It is said that September is the January of Fashion. Actually, by “it,” I mean the documentary ‘The September Issue’ – a behind-the-scenes look at how the thickest and most hotly anticipated issue of Vogue Magazine is put together from the entrails while mildly touching upon the fascinating lives of editor in chief Anna Wintour and auburn-haired creative director Grace Coddington. My chance encounter with Coddington, while watching the Tony award-winning play War Horse at the New York Lincoln Center, made that thought even stronger. She said that it is the month when new fashion dictations are made, and when fashion experiences a sort of re-genesis.
That said: September is also the springboard from which many creative and seemingly fashionable endeavors in the metro are able to take root and find proper bearing. Everything from concerts to plays and musicals are rendered ripe for the picking, as though months of creative gestation had somehow led to this.
