THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE
By Christopher de Venecia
It is said that September is the January of Fashion. Actually, by “it,” I mean the documentary ‘The September Issue’ – a behind-the-scenes look at how the thickest and most hotly anticipated issue of Vogue Magazine is put together from the entrails while mildly touching upon the fascinating lives of editor in chief Anna Wintour and auburn-haired creative director Grace Coddington. My chance encounter with Coddington, while watching the Tony award-winning play War Horse at the New York Lincoln Center, made that thought even stronger. She said that it is the month when new fashion dictations are made, and when fashion experiences a sort of re-genesis.
That said: September is also the springboard from which many creative and seemingly fashionable endeavors in the metro are able to take root and find proper bearing. Everything from concerts to plays and musicals are rendered ripe for the picking, as though months of creative gestation had somehow led to this. I mean, besides the fact that September is an important month …

Everyone’s A Band Aid
By MJ Cordova (@mjcordova08)
Almost Famous is my favorite movie and Penny Lane is an icon to me: “We are not Groupies. Groupies sleep with rock stars because they want to be near someone famous. We are here because of the music, we inspire the music. We are Band Aids,” she said. And indeed, there is a band aid in every music enthusiast who continues to support their favorite bands and our local music scene in general, buying original CDs and relentlessly watching gigs, wherever these may be. Its exciting to see that the local band scene continues to be a vibrant and thriving industry booming with artists from different music genres reflecting our culture and the heart and soul of our generation.
