Stereo 2 by Juan Caguicla and Christina Dy
July 21st, in Events, Exhibit by Apryl Galang
Silverlens Gallery celebrates MANILART 10 with Stereo 2 by Juan Caguicla and Christina Dy, July 27-31, 2010 at Silverlens Gallery. As a special extension of the Silverlens Show at MANILART 10, the Philippines’ 2nd international contemporary art fair to be held from July 30-August 1 at the SMX Convention Center, Caguicla and Dy join Frankie Callaghan, Leslie de Chavez, Mariano Ching, Chati Coronel, Christina Dy, Wawi Navarozza, Gina Osterloh, Hanna Pettyjohn and Rachel Rillo.
Showcasing the second part of two series marrying Caguicla’s edgy photography and Dy’s large-scale charcoal drawings, Caguicla and Dy present only one image, albeit a very strong one. It is indeed “stereoscopic”, as described by mutual friend Raymond De Veyra, the source of the show’s name.
In this show, called Stereo 2, Caguicla and Dy go much further with what they bare and where they connect. And by also going much bigger in scale, Stereo 2 is meant to make an impact.…
Faith + Reason
May 22nd, in Events, Exhibit by Andrea Torres
Religion and spirituality are two key influences in personal and cultural life, as belief systems occupy various positions in social strata through individual appeal. Faith + Reason aims to cover the spectrum of religious iconography (as selected by artists within the SEA region), from its creation and abstraction through history and tradition, to the consumption of its supposed ‘meanings’ and ‘uses’. Such iconography extends beyond the institutions from which they originate, and are finally appropriated by contemporary culture, only to produce ‘representations’ which subsequently, represent something entirely different.
With a variety of styles from Southeast Asian artists such as Ahmad Zakii Anwar (Malaysia), Filippo Sciascia (Italian based in Indonesia), Jason Wee (Singapore), Sri Astari (Indonesia), Manit Sriwanichpoom (Thailand), Pintor Sirait (Indonesia), Agus Baqul Purnomo (Indonesia), Mella Jaarsma (Indonesia) and Made Wijaya (Indonesia). together with Filipino artists Valeria Cavestany, Roberto Chabet, Mariano Ching, Popo San Pascual, Maya Munoz, Kiko Escora, Mark Salvatus, Yason Banal, Leeroy New, Trek Valdizno, Andres Barrioquinto, Imelda Cajipe Endaya, Patty Eustaquio, Frankie Callaghan, and Gerardo Tan, Faith + Reason features artworks as varied…
