Look Out for the Rare Prints

August 26th, in Features by Apryl Galang

The 2010 Spring/Summer collection already presented one of Ray-Ban’s most iconic models with the insides decorated with uniquely creative designs, including the New York subway map, a floral pattern, and a striped pattern in cool and provocative color versions.

The new collection now introduces more innovative themes, turning the Wayfarer into a real trendsetter: the perfect style for those who follow fashion without losing their own distinctive personality.

In particular, two models (Wayfarer and Wayfarer II) feature the NY Subway design on the front, and the stripe motif on the top front, respectively.

Two more key themes are found in Ray-Ban’s special Rare Prints series; “Comics” and “Button Pins”. Both are related to trends in pop culture, cinema, and advertising, revamped as fashion trends in 2010-2011.

The “Comics” line, in different bright-colored versions, features black-and-white faces of bold retro inspiration.

The “Button Pins” are real colored pins imprinted in the textures that brighten up the RB 2140 model with vibrant colors and imaginative designs.

Ray-Ban’s standard collection will include the “Color Twirl” motif, whose innovative tones are obtained from overlapping acetate…

SM Cinema Crowns its First Cinekada

August 20th, in Features by Apryl Galang

Last August 14 at the SM Centerstage (Mall of Asia) was the culmination of SM Cinema’s search for the ultimate barkada—Cinekada. The search first launched last May as barkadas of 5 hurried up and uploaded their photos in SM Cinema’s facebook together with a creative explanation as to why they deserved the title. SM Cinema pushed the program further by holding a Cinekada caravan, which went around different SM Malls and universities together with today’s top bands Chicosci and Tanya Markova.

Thousands of barkadas were trimmed down to the Top 20 who spent time getting to know each other during a corporate social responsibility story telling activity together with SM Foundation at Pasay City Hall and Taguig City Hall. Semi Finals were held a week after as the Top 20 was narrowed down to the Top 7 who will compete at the grand finals—the cute cosplaying friends called the Cosmix, writers from San Beda College dubbed as Bedakada, a group of buddies from Davao named Loyal Pal, UBE which stands for Ultimate Bonding Experience, the talented…

Cherie Gil: Love Her or Hate Her

by Apryl Galang

“Charge it to my room!” was the first remarkable line she uttered when this writer had my up-close encounter with local cinema’s ultimate villainess in the island paradise.  I admit she still terrifies me with her daunting glances and intimidating smirks. While onlookers tend to keep their distance from her, some brave ones dared to get as close (maybe five feet away) as they could. Of course, you really can’t help but notice her and get a chance to rub elbows because Cherie’s a pop icon and the kontrabida diva.

This month, we got a chance to snag her from the hectic work grind and made her August cover girl.  How often would you see Miss Cherie flaunt her curves? Well, think again. Aside from that, she also candidly answered a few questions that some people are dying to ask.  Forget about the scheming characters she has previously portrayed and read on like you’ve never known Cherie Gil before.

How do you define sexy? Someone who exudes confidence, sophistication and…

Basic Instinct (1992) A suspenseful, cat-and-mouse erotic thriller with psychosexual overtones starring Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas. Directed by Paul Verhoeven.

OMG Moments: The film’s interrogation scene initiated by Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) in which Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone) uncrossed and re-crossed her legs while wearing a short white mini-dress (without undies).
