Tanghalang Pilipino (TP) continues to delight audiences with its 24th Theater Season (2010-2011) lineup of new plays that celebrate the National Artist as a modern Filipino IDOL. The season opens with Banaag at Sikat, Isang Rock Musical, a production that headlines the collaboration between National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera who wrote the libretto and National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal who designed the sets and costumes. This exciting new musical is based on Lope K. Santos’ groundbreaking literary opus of the same title about the breakup of the Filipino family and the rise of socialism in the country.

With music by Lucien Letaba, Banaag at Sikat, Isang Rock Musical universalizes its socialist theme by juxtaposing central, turn-of-the-century Philippines (1911) with music that’s very much today, Indie Rock.
