Velvet Spearheads The Best of Hollywood: A Tribute Exhibit
February 25th, in Features by Apryl GalangVelvet channel’s The Best of Hollywood: A Tribute Exhibit, now on its third installment, was held at the Archaeology wing of the Power Plant mall of Rockwell and attended by the most sought-after celebrities and prominent personalities in the world of fashion and entertainment. The event was the second leg – the first being the exclusive screening of the Natalie Portman-starrer Black Swan – in the channel’s events to usher in the live telecast and complete coverage of the 83rd Academy Awards hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway on February 28,Monday.
The one-of-a-kind exhibit challenged fifteen creative teams to present their interpretations on assigned Hollywood films to produce fashion editorial-like photos. Velvet gathered top photographers and assigned to each of them a Hollywood movie that has made an impact in fashion and style. These experts behind the shutters chose their team of stylists and make-up artists/hair stylists. Their creative collaboration transformed celebrities like Bea Alonzo, Heart Evangelista, Diego Mapa, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Kim Chiu, Mia Ayesa, Diego Castillo, Megan Young, Lance Howard, Daniel Matsunaga, Fabio Ide, Hideo Muraoka, Deny Barros, Rich Herrera & Rich Hardin, Empress Schuck, Anton del Rosario & Christopher Camcam of the Philippine Azkals, Mai Kauffman, Rocio Olbes, Vania Romoff, Bianca Roque, Robby Carmona, Erik Cua, Stephen Ku, Mitch Malli, GP Reyes, Zsazsa Padilla, Julia Montes, Dennis Trillo, Jewel Mische and John Lloyd Cruz into fashion/movie icons inspired by a character or characters from their assigned award winning movie.
The celebrities and creative teams had the time of their lives as they teamed up to capture larger than life stills from these Hollywood gems. “I am having so much fun! This is my first time to participate in the Velvet exhibit,” said Bea Alonzo in her photo shoot recently held in Manila.
In 2009, Velvet’s Tribute to the Oscars grand prize winner was Diether Ocampo as Don Vito Corleone created by their team composed of Paolo Pineda, Bea Constantino, Omar Ermita and Ricky Diokno. For this year, it will be hosted by none other than Robin Roberts, Tim Gunn, Krista Smith and Maria Menounos.
Which designers will the stars wear this year? Who will be candidates for the Best Dressed list? Gunn, the chief executive officer of Liz Claiborne Inc. and well known mentor on Project Runway, will provide answers. He will be manning the red carpet to interview celebrities and comment on their fashion choices. Gunn also hosted the arrivals show two years ago along with Roberts.
For this year, Roberts will be handling the pre-show stage, and will be conducting interviews with the nominees. Roberts, who is co-anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America, is a well-traveled journalist who was also a commentator and contributor in ESPN.
