An Urban Beach. All roads will lead to Mag:net Katipunan in April as the venue is transformed into an urban beach with nightly live bands playing party music that vary from reggae to ska to world music, indie rock, electronica and more. Even the hilarious SPIT will do beach acts. All of Mag:net's 2nd floor will covered in white sand, bands and guests are encouraged to come in shorts or beach attire. Nights are expected to be not only for listening but for dancing as well. A marrying band leader have decided to turn his gig into a stag beach party. A group on the culminating night on Apri 12 said they'll come in bikinies and swimming trunks. Making Good Melodies. Mag:net High Street holds the 1st "Odd Congress" as 4 bands with members from 4 different Ad Agencies perform in the same night on April 17, Thursday. The bands participating are: Drip (Jimenezbasics), Dirty Kitchen (Optima), Pasok mga Buwitre (BBDO) and TBA (McAnn). "Odd Congress" will be held every 1st Thursday of the month starting in April.

The Full Spectrum of Music. From the most entertaining solo artists to the most innovative and intense bands, MCA provides the most exciting live acts. Dubbed as OPM's soulchild, Julianne is taking the music scene by storm with her different brand of music being a talented singer, a great composer and a gifted guitarist. One of the more unique bands of recent years known for their innovative, atmospheric, and intense music, Chicosci just released their self-titled fourth album. A self-produced effort, the band again attempts to give listeners something new to look forward to; focusing more on catchier melodies and earnest lyrics, the new album which is currently out in the market, redefines the bands already distinct sound with MTV-generation pop sensibilities. Miguel Escueta’s recording “Let It Be” for the singing tilt’s official compilation album garnered a nomination for Best New Male Recording Artist in the prestigious 2005 Awit Awards. I Am M.E. is available in all record stores. A band composed of musical heavyweights Raimund Marasigan and Buddy Zabala of E-heads, Kris Gorra-Dancel of Fatal Posporos, Diego Mapa of Pedicab and Ebe Dancel of Sugarfree collectively known as Cambio has makes it no surprise that their music stands-out in today’s market and are bound to tickle any musical fans fancy. Their album, CambioMatic, is available in all records stores. Lastly, Richard Poon who is fast making his mark even as he continues to steer away from doing usual pop fare, keenly devoted as he is to becoming a romantic crooner. Definitely, a star to watch in the local scene—his first album “I’ll Take Care Of You” is available in all record stores.

Showstoppers. Merk's Bar Bistro presents a roster of talented performers as it opens the month of April. Catch talented acoustic trio Silk & Steel with their selection of pop and folk music on all Mondays of April while the RX 80s performs on April 1, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26 and 29. Film

The Sea Inside. The life story of Spaniard Ramón Sampedro who fought a 30-year campaign to win the right to end his life with dignity is featured in the film. The film explores Ramón's relationships with two women: Julia, a lawyer who supports his cause, and Rosa, a local woman who wants to convince him that life is worth living. Showing on April 26, 6PM at Instituto Cervantes.

Mondays in the Sun. Five middle-aged friends who used to work at the local shipyard meet daily in a bar for drinking and small talk. Santa is their rebel leader, and is being sued by the owner of the shipyard for breaking an 8,000 pesetas light. José feels insecure of his wife Ana, who is supporting their home with temporary work in a tuna can factory. Paulino is permanently trying to find a job. The Russian Serguei seems to have accepted his life status. The depressed Amador misses his wife, who left him some time ago. For all of them, each jobless idle day looks like a Sunday. Antes que anochezca. Before Night Falls is based on the life of exiled Cuban poet and novelist, Reinaldo Arenas (1943-1990). The film takes an episodic look at his life, beginning from his childhood in Oriente province to his death in New York City. Living in absolute poverty during his early years, Arenas endures the horrors and difficulties as a homosexual writer, censored and persecuted in Castro’s Cuba. The Many Faces of Javier Bardem. Instituto Cervantes trains the spotlight on Spanish Javier Bardem, who recently won the Best Supporting Actor plum at the Academy Awards for his turn as a chilling sociopath hitman in the movie No Country for Old Men. The film cycle traces memorable movies from Bardem's illustrious career, including the movie Before Night Falls, where he was first nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, becoming the first Spanish actor to receive a nomination from the Hollywood organization, and Mar Adentro, where he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Starting April 5, 2008, and on every Saturday of the month of April, film buffs can catch Bardem's finest performances at the Salon de Actos of Instituto Cervantes at 6PM. A Cinematic Treat. Hubo Productions, the makers of the hit movie COMPOUND, presents Will Fredo's "Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa." A thrilling love story with a brilliant cast. The Mystique Film Series. One of the best to come out of Cinekatipunan last year was the holding of a series of screenings called "Uncensored Bodies: Dance on Screen". For this year's series, Contemporary Dance-Artist Icon Myra Beltran will organize the event. The screenings will held on Wednesdays (April 9, 16 and 23) at Mag:net Cinekatipunan. The screenings are expected to be followed by live collaborative performances by dancers, musicians and other artists as in the case of last year's series.

The Plaza of the Diamond. As a tribute to the birth centenary of Catalan author Mercé Rodereda, the Instituto Cervantes in Manila screens the cinematic adaptation of her most significant novel. The film shows an angle of a country at war not depicted in traditional history books. Set during the Spanish Civil War, the movie focuses on Colometa, a housewife with two children and whose husband leaves her to fight. She is forced to raise her children under harsh circumstances, which is aggravated when her husband dies. Underneath Colometa's acquiescent, forbearing exterior lies discontent, and unrealized dreams - but they never surface as she blithely moves from one episode in her life to another. Altar Boyz. What if there was an openly Christian boy band? Winner of 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, Altar Boyz is the smash hit musical-satire about a heavenly guy group on the rise to stardom. The self-anointed apostles of pop-Matthew, Mark Luke, Juan, and Abraham take the audience church with catchy melodies, freaky moves, and product in their hair. In The Land Of Saints And Horses. After a successful one-man show last January in Singapore, Mario de Rivera opens his latest exhibit at the Alliance Française de Manille. His paintings are a fusion of images, colours, textures, cultures, religions and visual traditions that are skilfully woven into a rich iconography that resonates with and amplifies the different cultural strains that have filtered into Philippine art. Anniversary Show. Artists-couples in history are special. The lists include Diego de Riviera & Frida Kalo, Danny Dallena & Julie Lluch, Juan&Isabel Aquilizan, Jayson Oliveria&Lena Cobangbang among others. Among them is The Syjucos, Cesare&Jeanmarie who are celebrating their 30th year anniversary of collaboration as a couple (their artists children have been making waves bringing more excitement to the local art scene) and as artists marks the event by holding a joint exhibit at the newly inaugurated Mag:net Ayala Avenue from April 4-29, 2008.

Pillow Talk at Silverlens Gallery. The exhibit features the culmination of Ringo Bunoan’s body of work using pillows. It gathers seminal and significant pieces, including installations, sound work, photographs, and light boxes. Pillow Talk was awarded the Silverlens foundation Completion Grant in 2007 and will run until April 19, 2008. There will also be a film screening of “This is Modern Art: Nothing Matters” on April 5. Hain: Memory Spreads. The exhibition features the International Wine and Food Society Manila Ladies Branch's donation of menu cards from 1900 to 1940. AnnTiu.Alchemy. Jewelry, furniture, and sculptures by Movement 8 member and internationally acclaimed furniture, home accessories, and jewelry designer Ann Tiukinhoy Pamintuan. The exhibit chronicles Pamintuan's transformative journey as an artist. From large scupltural pieces such as chairs, table, and home decor for which she is known for, Pamintuan moves to intimate jewelry, echoing the same organic flow.
