As a 17th anniversary offering, Star Cinema brings together the most acclaimed actors of this generation to the big screen with Sa’yo Lamang. This family drama dares to step in the path trodden by the highly commended classic Tanging Yaman. Also helmed by Laurice Guillen, Sa’yo Lamang takes the story of a family torn apart by circumstances.
The movie revolves around Dianne Alvero (Bea Alonzo) who was left with the responsibility of taking care of her mother (Lorna Tolentino) and three siblings played by Coby (Coco Martin), James (Enchong Dee) and Lisa (Miles Ocampo). When their father (Christopher de Leon) comes back, she finds it difficult to forgive him. Will love, faith and forgiveness prevail during the most trying times in their life?

2010 Silent Film Festival

This year’s International Silent Film Festival presents four films from Japan, Italy, Germany and Spain to be screened on August 28-29, 2010. Instituto Cervantes features the Spanish silent film entitled “Wine Cellars” to be screened at 3PM, August 29 with a live musical score by Tanglaw, Manila’s premier world music and jazz group formed in 2007.
La Bodega (1929), directed by Benito Perojo and based on the novel of Vicente Blasco Ibanez (1905) has for a plot the Andalusian wineries where there was an atmosphere of feudalism and clerical exploitation, coupled with a correlative misery and civil unrest. The film recounts the love affair of Rafael and Maria Luz, the daughter of Fermin who works at the wine cellars of Pablo Dupont in Jerez. When Rafael gets wounded in a smuggling operation, he is taken care by Maria Luz.

Workshop Graduation + ufo Sightings: Cinema Knights

Time to honor the workshop graduates at the Asia Pacific Film Institute on July 31! Their works will be screened (film) and performed (acting) from 4-6PM at the screening room/theater. Certificates will be awarded at 6-6:30PM, followed by potluck cocktails at 7PM.
Short films and trailers will start screening at 8PM, featuring the work of JP Carpio, Emman dela Cruz, Jay Ignacio, Lem Garcellano, Edber Mamisao, Jewel Maranan, Dante Perez, Paul Soriano and selected APFI students.
