Setting Sights on the Indie Music Scene
April 28th, in Circuit Training by Apryl GalangFrom its fairly modest beginnings as a check-us-out intimate gig for the intuitive fan and artist alike to its full house presence during the Long Sets, The Jack Daniel’s the JD Set and its featured artists have assertively come a long way.
As it should be, unsophisticated indie bands inevitably grow up into deserving ingenious headliners. Setting its sights on the edge-driven independent music scene, the Jack Daniel’s the JD Set Philippines is a global music program that promotes and celebrates Jack’s love for music. It is a series of events that feature top local indie artists who are given a chance of a lifetime for exposure and a regional stage to perform. Thirteen featured bands from versed backgrounds were ideally lined up together with Jack Daniel’s collective enthusiasm for taste, creativity and entertainment. Out of the thirteen artists, the Chosen 7 will rise to participate on a seven month-long tour, exposing them to a much-desired inclusive audience with full-on support from Jack Daniel’s.
Given that the series has an underlying premise of an artistic competition, Jack Daniel’s the JD Set cultivates an air for upcoming artists to sharpen talent and an avenue to prove they can stand out and expand the definitions of alternative art. This is the prevailing approach that dominates much of the indie culture today. Unlike any other period in the history of music, Indie artists now have access to fantastic opportunities thanks to their modish acts, the reach of modern media, and the disposed participation of Jack Daniel’s.
After two and a half months of the thirteen bands performing, Jack Daniel’s has finally picked its Chosen 7. The Chosen 7 performed their killer sets last April 15 at the JD Set Philippine Reveal Night at Whitespace Makati. Jack’s Chosen 7 are: Blue Boy Bites Back, Jack Versus the Crab, Kelevra, Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus, Paramita, Playphonics and Stories of Now. Fans and new listeners alike joined together in a night in support of the independent music scene in the Philippines. Power band Urbandub capped the night off in another amazing performance signature to the band. Urbandub is the representative of Jack Daniel’s to its SEAsian Music Festival 2011.
The 7-month tour of the Chosen 7 is coming next on the list of JD Set events. To know more about the JD Set and catch the upcoming gigs, visit www.facebook.com/JackDanielsTheJDSetPhilipines.
