Toy Making Workshop with Pilipinas Street Plan

In an effort to provide learning opportunities to schoolchildren in public schools, the Lopez Memorial Museum teams up with the art collective Pilipinas Street Plan (PSP), Knowledge Channel Foundation and Boysen Paints for Gawa/Laro, a toy making workshop to be held on February 12, Saturday from 9AM-12NN.

The workshop participants will use a variety of taka, a traditional art form of Paete, Laguna using paper mache to create toys. Some of the toys made will be sold in Art in the Park on February 19. The proceeds will go to Knowledge Channel’s programs for Filipino schoolchildren.

PSP’s toy making workshop complements the current exhibition Extensions, which also features multimedia work by the collectives Plataporma, Rock Ed Philippines including contemporary artist Maya Muñoz. In the exhibit, PSP rendered a Philippine map on one of the gallery walls; the wall serves as the ground where the street artists marked various landmarks, tagged with stickers, stenciled and sprayed images which have made PSP literally present in these sites.
