Manila Design Week 2010
August 6th, in Events, Workshop by Apryl GalangManila Design Week aims to bring Philippine graphic design into the mainstream. More than that, it wants to establish the Philippines as a hub of graphic design and creativity in the region by galvanizing local talent and giving it a voice, year after year. Everything and anything graphic design, in all media, will be featured: from print and publication design to web and motion graphics passing through its applications in photography, advertising, music and fashion. Daily activities in venues around the metro are scheduled, like last year, for one whole week this month (from August 7, Saturday to August 13, Friday). Each one revolves around a core message chosen by the Manila Design Week team.
With this year’s theme: Design Everyday Everyday. Everyone and everything are great places to find good design. Over the years, the relationship between the general population and graphic design has grown familiar and comfortable. Design has been democratized. It is no longer exclusive to luxury items and large institutions that can afford both beautiful form and outstanding function. Everyday, everyone and…
Aphorisms of Love
July 16th, in Events, Workshop by Apryl Galang
The seminar will tackle the message about the Aphorisms of Love, also known as “Kama Sutra”. The Love Guru Krishna will essentially give an introduction on an Indian literature, “A Classic of Love” written by an Ancient sage, Vatsyayana. “Kama”, which means carnal pleasure is one of the main objects of the existence of a human being. Unfortunately, the essence of Kama Sutra has been disregarded and misinterpreted by the unlearned.
Guru Krisha will educate on its discipline and the importance of the spiritual aspect between the union of a man and a woman, wherein as married couples, sexual pleasures is one of the basic foundations for having a good marriage. At the end of the fruitful seminar, the message of Guru Krishna—-which is on the individual’s correct perception on a new humanity with a good life and vibrations of love that exudes respect and loyalty to one another—-will be achieved. Namaste!
On July 21, Wednesday at Quantum Café, 9590 Kamagong cor. Bagtikan St. Makati. Registration is at 7PM. The workshop fee is P1650, which already includes…

Dear Sweet Filthy World Artist Talk by Patricia Eustaquio
April 13th, in Events, Workshop by Apryl Galang
Patricia Eustaquio continues her exploration of memory with Dear Sweet Filthy World, bridging Elvis Costello’s song of the same name with oil paintings, cardboard sculptures, and boats cut from felt and cast in epoxy resin. Through these objects, Eustaquio expresses memory as an idea, and memory as she made it.
On April 17, Saturday from 3-5PM, Eustaquio elaborates on Dear Sweet Filthy World, where the construction of memory is built alongside her narrative “to convey the irony of our feeling towards reality, the realities in life, the world.”
Understanding how one’s recreation of the past is built on fragments, Eustaquio also allows her own memory of the Typhoon Ondoy tragedy to express itself, however limited and isolated it may be. Watching from Delft, The Netherlands, where she was completing her art residency, Eustaquio realizes the difficulty of reconciling isolated ideas with a precise recreation of the past.
Join Eustaquio as she describes how she filled in the gap. Taking a turn towards reaction, Dear Sweet Filthy World accuses the world, and questions the sweet and the filthy in…
