The Ellen Syndrome
by Apryl Galang
When you say internet sensation, there’s that one girl who quickly comes to mind. Oh yes, none other than the motel heiress turned TV Personality and finally Circuit cover girl Ellen Adarna. A certain shock value is felt on how she became a favorite among netizens. During the Friendster era (yes, it’s that long ago), people would steal her photos and claim them as their own? Luckily, she surpassed all these past episodes and came out as an even bigger celebrity in her own right.
As Ellen’s fame skyrocketed through the photos that she uploads, the rise of her wannabes and haters have also increased. Imagine, her current Facebook account was suspended thrice because some people tried to hack their way into it. I guess that’s the curse of being Ellen.Oftentimes, she’s admired; and a lot of times, she’s stalked. Those are just among the peculiar memories that she has stacked in different social online networks. Ellen keeps her cool but she sometimes freak out a little bit. After all, it’s in the name of fun.
On the flipside, she’s just like any other regular girl- happy and easygoing. This girl also knows how to party hard and have fun being a regular fixture in the club scene in Cebu and now here in Manila. In fact, we asked one of her BFF and our very own Cebu correspondent Cacay Moras on her favorite party memory with Ellen, “The ones that I don’t remember.” Being the life of every party, you will never have a dull moment whenever you’re with Ellen.
Cacay continues, “She’s a great friend. Girl code all the way. It’s impossible to describe her. There may be 2 words but I can only divulge the initials, you can make your guesses. BW.” Hmmm, seems like we got so intrigued with Ellen even more. So we dig even more by asking what’s Ellen’s ultimate weakness? In true best friend fashion, Cacay opted not to reveal anything, “Hahahahahaha! I don’t think I should be sharing that in public. You’re welcome Len!”
On her: white leatherette vest and white leather running shorts both by NLPZ by Neal Corpuz, white belt by SM Accessories, gold fiberglass cutout statement earrings by MIADORE.
More than the party girl image, Ellen shows more of her softer side when she’s out of the limelight. Take note, this girl also plays the piano and violin. Ellen also admits that she’s an old soul, favoring classical music as her desired tunes.
Just a piece of advice, she may look vulnerable and even fragile sometimes. But a piece of advice: do not mess with her or else you’ll get it. Ellen makes it clear that she isn’t leaving showbiz yet but maybe for a couple of years.
Mastering The Art of Selfie… That’s what happens if you’re the only girl in the family and your parents are strict, and you’re stuck at home, you just take pictures of yourself.
Hello Fakers! I really don’t know. But before, I tried to count those number of fake Friendster accounts, then I stopped! Why bother?! Hahaha.
The News Feed… First, I was flattered about the whole internet sensation thing and I’d ask why me. Then I’d get annoyed because some people would use my photos to ask for money and load from other people, some do it for flirting and some would have cyber sex using my photo.
Mark as Spam…I don’t know who the hackers are, guys or gays because I heard one time from a friend that some gays use my photo to hook some foreign guys. Oh my gosh, why me?
Beware Nasty Comments…I block them instantly. Just don’t answer back, delete it and then block! I really can’t remember how many times I did it.
Enter Complicated Password… I change it like 4 times a month.
Thou Shalt...Avoid having passwords like your name and birthday, ILOVE______(insert your boyfriend’s name), street names or just make your answers to the security questions confusing. Opt for silly password so people won’t know.
On Ellen: embellished with sequins, spikes and studs cutout bodysuit by Oz Go, black lace-up booties by Sole Story by Nina Quintos.
Two thumbs DOWN… Somebody harassed me for weeks. The message was like “Hoy magbayad ka na ng utang mo.” First, I thought it was a mistake, but the comment repeated all over again.
What’s On Your Mind? Keep your friends close, enemies closer and hackers the closest.
