November proves to be a merry month for our local theater scene. There are just lots of productions to choose from! But if you are a bit hesitant to watch plays with unfamiliar storylines, you don’t have to go into theater abstinence; there are enough plays to fill your plate.
From 2D movie and TV screens, these well-loved titles will be available on 3D via moving actors and live performances on stage this month:
Maxie the Musicale (November 15-December 15 at PETA Theater Center, Quezon City, 891-9999, 470-2227)
Eight years after the local and international success of Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, the well-loved pastel-color wearing Maximo will come back to life in Maxie The Musical. So what makes Jayvhot Galang, a newcomer, a tailor-fit for the role? See for yourself.
Bagging the role… The producer went to our house to tell me about Maxie and invited me for a special audition. There I performed Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I am Telling You.
Hearing the final approval, I told myself… I am Maxie, Oh My God!
Preparations… Aside from the singing, the dancing, and dramatic emotions nothing much because I am Maxie! What you see in me is all Maxie.
Pre-performance jitters... I’m just afraid that the audience might not feel who Maxie is and what he wants in life.
A Beginner’s Impression… I don’t know anything about theater before Maxie. But now I’ve realized that it’s better to be on stage than to be on screen. I love theater!
Parallelism of reality… Very much like Maxie, my family accepts me for who I am. His story is a reflection of mine.
The Producers (November 14 to December 15 at On Stage, Greenbelt 1, 891-9999)
Shifting gears to Hollywood movie scene, Repertory Philippines is staging the local adaptation of Mel Brook’s “The Producers”. A hilarious Broadway musical based on the 1968 film of the same name, “The Producers” follows Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom who plans to stage the worst Broadway musical they can find, so that they can pocket the money when the show flops. Their scheme falls apart, however, when Springtime for Hitler-the supposed worst production- becomes a smash hit. Be entertained by the crazy cast that includes: Carlo Orosa, Robie Zialcita, Topper Fabregas, Joel Trinidad, Noel Trinidad, Audie Gemora, Noel Rayos and G Toengi.
The Addams Family (November 15 to December 01 at Meralco Theater)
From paper, to TV, to movie and now to theater; the Addams family has conquered all forms of medium! And now, they’re conquering the local theater scene. The story: Ultimate princess of darkness, Wednesday Addams has grown up and has finally fallen in love! But their relationship is everything but normal (much like Addams family). Watch out how everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Prepare to cry… by laughing so hard with the all-star cast led by Eula Valdes, Arnel Ignacio, K-La Rivera and L.A. based singer Ryan Gallagher!
