Details:The Goethe-Institut in Partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the University of the Philippines Film Institute (UPFI), UP Cinema and GMA News On-line is showcasing a selection of films from the ChopShots Documentary Film Festival Southeast Asia. Spearheaded by the Goethe-Institut in Jakarta, the 2nd edition of the bi-annual festival was launched in Indonesia last year and featured documentary films with a focus on Southeast Asia.

Curated by filmmaker Joseph Israel Laban, the line-up of films includes two Filipino documentaries from our very own Adjani Arumpac and Alexander Cruz. The Philippine screenings will open with Arumpac’s film, “War is a Tender Thing”. Post-screening discussions will be held after each screening day at the UPFI Videotheque. Guest filmmakers Lulu Ratna from Indonesia and Nguyen Thi Tham from Vietnam are part of a group of speakers who will talk about topics touched by the films, the most relevant of which is the Mindanao conflict. Arumpac’s film is a retelling of the decades-long conflict in Mindanao through her own family’s history.

After the Manila leg, the FDCP will be touring the films for free screenings in Davao City (May 20 to 24), Baguio City (May 27 to 31), Zamboanga City (June 3 to 7) and Iloilo City (June 10 to 14).
