Now Gallery and Auctions will open a fine art photography exhibit on Thursday, December 5, at 6 to 9 pm. The exhibit, entitled “Wallables: The Lao Lianben Selection,” features the works of member-photographers of Camera Club of the Philippines, the oldest extant photography club in the Philippines which started in 1928. Featuring 85 photographs, the exhibit aims to further raise the bar of Camera Club members’ creative energies. Linked to this, it aims to promote fine art photography in the Philippines and to give the general public an opportunity to experience the creative talent of the club’s passionate members.
“Wallables: The Lao Lianben Selection”, which runs until December 28, is a rare exhibit of the Camera Club of the Philippines on fine arts photography. It features the distinct aura of fine art photographs using mundane subject matter such as portrait and landscapes that were infused with a nuanced perspective using both keen eye and technical know-how. The works were carefully selected by noted painter Lao Lianben from a number of works by Camera Club members to come up with a curated collection that speaks of his sensibility.
Gallery Director Patrick Reyno supports fine art photography, often sidelined by paintings and sculptures in terms of exposure. He wants to give focus or limelight to this rising art form, a technically-challenging hobby or pastime and art endeavour. In the West, fine art photography has been increasing in importance in terms of output and demand. He believes it is happening in Asia now, as its economies rise up in scale.
The exhibition project is a brainchild of the Board of Directors of the Camera Club of the Philippines headed by its President Billy Mondoñedo. It is amply supported by Epson, Tecco:Photo Paper GmbH and by institutions such as The Drawing Room and Blanc Gallery.
